Ayra Starr Followed an NFL Halftime Show With a 20-City Tour

North London is not where most people expect to meet the new wave of Nigerian pop, but that is where Ayra Starr found her biggest new audience this month. At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, during the NFL International Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars, she played the halftime show, running through “Heaven Baby”, “Rush” and “Hot Body” for a crowd that had mostly come for the football.

Less than a day later, Ayra Starr announced the Starrgirl World Tour: 20 cities across Europe, the UK and North America between January and April 2027. The run supports Starrgirl, her third studio album, released on 14 August through Mavin Records and Republic Records. uDiscover Music reported that the halftime set made her the first Afrobeats artist to headline an NFL International Game halftime show.

The European Leg, City by City

The tour opens on 20 January at the Live Music Hall in Cologne, Germany, and moves straight on to Melkweg in Amsterdam the following night, according to dates published by Capital XTRA. From there the European leg takes in Paris, Milan and Zurich before reaching Forest National in Brussels on 31 January.

The leg closes in London on 2 February at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, which is the only UK date on the schedule. For London’s large West African diaspora, that single night in west London is likely to be one of the most sought-after tickets of the run.

In all, the European leg packs seven cities into two weeks, from 20 January to 2 February. Several of the named rooms, such as Melkweg and Shepherd’s Bush Empire, are clubs and theatres rather than arenas, which keeps the shows close to the fans who already know the songs.

Across North America in Four Weeks

After a gap of about six weeks, the North American leg begins on 18 March at the House of Blues in Houston, Texas. DancehallMag reported that the schedule then takes in Dallas, Atlanta, Silver Spring, Boston, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, Minneapolis and Denver, along with Canadian dates in Toronto and Montreal.

The final show is on 14 April at The Fillmore in San Francisco. In all, the North American leg packs 13 shows into four weeks, which makes it the longer half of a tour that runs to 20 dates in total.

Philadelphia stands out on the list. DancehallMag pointed out the neat overlap with the night she has just had with the Eagles in London, and how many new listeners the halftime broadcast may have sent her way before tickets go on sale.

Tickets, Timing and a Return Home First

Artist presale tickets went on sale on Wednesday 14 October at 10am, with general sale following on Friday 16 October at 10am. Capital XTRA described the run as her second-ever world tour.

Before any of the 2027 dates, Ayra Starr is due to return to Africa for appearances at the end of 2026, uDiscover Music reported, although details of those shows have not yet been announced. For fans on the continent, that is the more immediate news, since none of the 20 announced dates is in Africa.

No setlist has been confirmed. Capital XTRA expects the new album alongside the songs that built her following, with “Rush” the obvious centrepiece after the reaction it drew at Tottenham.

What Starrgirl Has Done So Far

Starrgirl arrived on 14 August and quickly showed how far her audience now reaches. According to uDiscover Music, it debuted at No. 2 on Spotify’s Top Albums Global chart and reached No. 1 on Apple Music’s album chart in 15 countries.

The album’s most visible song so far is “Heaven Baby”, a collaboration with ZAYN that went to No. 1 on Shazam’s Global Viral chart within its first week, and which now has an official video. Capital XTRA added that Ayra Starr has passed four billion Spotify streams across her career.

Starrgirl is her third album in about five years. DancehallMag noted that it follows her 2021 debut, 19 & Dangerous, and 2024’s The Year I Turned 21, a steady pace for any artist, let alone one whose international profile has grown with every release.

Halftime Exposure Meets Club-Sized Rooms

The timing of the announcement invites two readings, as DancehallMag argued. One is that Ayra Starr is building loyal, sold-out crowds city by city instead of gambling on arenas too early. The other is that rooms such as Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the House of Blues could feel small once the halftime exposure lands, because a large share of the NFL’s broadcast audience heard her for the first time that night.

Either way, the next few days will say a lot. How quickly the 20 shows sell through after general sale opens on 16 October will be the clearest early measure of how much the halftime slot moved her beyond the existing Afrobeats audience.

The halftime set also sharpened a pattern. “Rush” made her a name far beyond Nigeria, and the London crowd’s response to it was a reminder that the song still does the heavy lifting for new listeners discovering her catalogue.

An Awards Season Before the Tour

The weeks before the tour are busy. The 18th Headies Awards take place in Toronto on 25 October under the theme “Africa to the World”, and Nigerian Tribune reported that Ayra Starr and Tiwa Savage lead the female nominees with five nominations each. Ayra Starr is in contention for Best Female Artiste, Digital Artiste of the Year and Best Performer (Live).

The competition is strong. Wizkid is nominated in major categories including Best Male Artiste, Digital Artiste of the Year and Afrobeats Album of the Year, and Adekunle Gold is also up for Best Performer (Live) for his show at the National Theatre in Lagos, the Tribune reported. The organisers will also present the Headies Hall of Fame award to the veteran Congolese singer Awilo Longomba.

The ceremony’s setting fits its theme. Toronto, also a stop on her North American leg, hosts Nigeria’s biggest music awards night this year, a neat illustration of “Africa to the World”.

The Song Behind a Second Grammy Nod

Ayra Starr also comes into the run off a second round of Grammy recognition. Earlier this year she spoke to Billboard News about her 2026 nominations for “Gimme Dat” featuring Wizkid, in an interview summarised by BellaNaija. The track samples Wyclef Jean’s “911 / Diallo” and was recorded in his studio. She lost her voice during the recording process, explained how Wizkid came on board, and co-directed the music video herself.

She described the second round of nominations as reassurance that she was on the right path, and said it had strengthened her confidence in her own choices. She linked a recent change of hairstyle to a wider creative shift, named Rihanna, Beyoncé, her mother and her faith as influences, and picked Burna Boy as a dream collaborator.

Asked about the bigger picture, she spoke about the importance of African music being recognised across different genres on the global stage, and encouraged fans to make what they want without waiting for permission. Headlining an NFL halftime show in London and announcing a tour across two continents a day later fits that advice neatly.

Put together, the halftime show, the album numbers, the award nominations and a 20-city tour describe an artist moving from breakout to established headliner. She is not the only one taking the sound around the world on her own ticket this season: Tyla’s first world tour runs from Paris to Johannesburg, another sign of how much the international circuit for African pop has grown.
